How Many Players Are On A Team- Team size varies depending on how many players register.
What Team Will I Be On- In consideration for the safety and enjoyment of the players, we divide our teams into the following groups: Youth/Lite Hitters, Mix/Medium Hitters, Competitive/Heavy Hitters. We make every effort to place a player in the appropriate team group but may deviate due to circumstances.
When do Cheerleaders Perform- Cheerleaders are instructed on what time to be at the field for practice, then perform in-between the 1st and 2nd games.
What If My Child Is Severely Disabled And Can't Hit The Ball, Run, etc.- No problem! We will make sure your player has a buddy to assist them or if they feel more comfortable with a family member as a buddy, that's ok too.
What do Baseball Players and Cheerleaders Receive- Cheerleaders receive a jersey/t-shirt. We also provide pom-poms. Baseball players receive a jersey and a cap.
Can Anyone Be A Buddy- We depend on our community for volunteers! All buddies need to be 12 or older. We encourage individuals and groups to register as buddies on our website. Buddies also need to sign a waiver at the Buddy Sign-in table located at the 3rd base field gate, prior to going onto the field and they are also required to attend the Buddy Instruction Session at the pitcher's mound 15 minutes prior to the 1st game. The waiver states that we can use any photo or video images of you on our website or social media accounts, that you will not hold us liable in case of injury, and that you have not been convicted of a felony.
History of the Miracle League of the Okefenokee
A group of parents were inspired to establish The Miracle League of the Okefenokee (MLO). Their goals were simple - provide children and adults with special needs the opportunity to play baseball and to build an accessible baseball field for players with mobility issues.
We began playing on a clay field at the Ware County Trembling Earth Sports Complex in Waycross, GA. Soon afterwards, fundraising for the field began and we expanded our program to include cheerleading.
On March 25, 2023 the MLO held the Grand Opening of the Field of Dreams with over 100 players and cheerleaders registered. The new AstroTurf field was located on the same field at the Trembling Earth Complex that the MLO had played on from its inception. Thanks to the leadership of Ware County, we were able to reconstruct an existing field and take advantage of the current facilities.
They have the determination.
They have the drive.
They have the heart.
Thanks to your help, they have a field.
History of The Miracle League- How The Miracle League Began
The Original Miracle League.
Miracle League baseball began in Conyers, Georgia in 1998 when the Rockdale Youth Baseball Association invited children with unique abilities to play on a typical baseball field. That first season, on a grass and dirt field, 140 players came out to play baseball. The Miracle League has been growing ever since!
By the second season, a new type of field was developed just for Miracle League athletes. It’s a custom-designed field with a cushioned, rubberized surface. It makes it a little bit easier for special needs players to get from base to base.
The Miracle League believes that Every Child Deserves a Chance to Play Baseball. There are currently 350+ Miracle League organizations in the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada serving more than 300,000 children and adults with unique abilities.
